This report just wont go away.

German international midfielder Sami Khedira is apparently heading to Arsenal in January according to multiple reports in the UK.

Khedira, 27, was linked with Arsenal and Chelsea all summer long as Real Madrid’s central midfielder has just one year left on his contract. Talks over a new deal at the Santiago Bernabeu have stalled and Khedira will be free to talk to new clubs in January, however it seems like he could well have a new club by then as Real want to cash in for around $20 million.

After being injured during the warm up for the 2014 World Cup final, Khedira has yet to return to the Real Madrid lineup following knee surgery. With Tony Kroos, Luka Modric and Asier Illarramendi ahead of him in the pecking order, it is believed chances could be limited for the former VFB Stuttgart star.

He is certainly the kind of player Arsenal need to break things up in front of the back four as they were ripped apart against Borussia Dortmund on the counter in their UEFA Champions League defeat and their current crop of midfielders are all very offensive minded. That being said, Arsene Wenger has been linked with Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvlaho, Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin and Borussia Dortmund’s Lars Bender over the summer as the Gunners failed to bolster the holding midfield role and in defense.

They spent in excess of $130 million but mostly on attacking players as Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck arrived.

If they can do a deal for Khedira in January, great. If not, tying him down to arrive on a free transfer next summer would be even better.
