That’s a profit of $14 million for the relegated Magpies, who had a star on their hands when Wijnaldum was firing. “Gini” scored four goals in one match against Norwich City, and totaled 11 goals and five assists during his year at St. James Park.

Thirty times capped by the Netherlands, Wijnaldum is a slick dribbler but also an strong player capable of winning 50/50 balls.

The problem for Newcastle was the same as Moussa Sissoko: He had a tendency to disappear for weeks at a time, going 15 matches without a goal before scoring twice in the Magpies’ season finale.
