USMNT names squad ahead of Cuba, New Zealand friendlies

With the Hex right around the corner, Jurgen Klinsmann has named the 23 players that will get a final look before the U.S. Men’s National Team begins CONCACAF’s last stage of World Cup qualifying.

American eyes will immediately jump to November 11, when the USMNT faces off against rivals Mexico to begin the fifth round of WCQ, but Sunday’s 23-man roster will give a mix of youth and veterans one last chance to impress Klinsmann in the team’s upcoming friendlies.

Among the names that will surely have an eye closely on them are New York Red Bulls midfielder Sacha Kljestan and Bayern Munich’s Julian Green.

Meanwhile, Geoff Cameron of Stoke City and Sunderland’s Lynden Gooch lead the Premier League contingent for Klinsmann’s team.

In all, eight MLS players were selected by Klinsmann ahead of the two friendlies, while six Bundesliga selections also check into the team.

The U.S. will travel to Havana take on Cuba for the first time since 1947 on Oct. 7, before hosting New Zealand four days later.
