A sixth-rounder from Michigan, Schilling will provide depth at right tackle and guard. He shouldn’t be a candidate to start any of the final 10 games.

Schilling was San Diego’s sixth-round pick out of Michigan in 2011. Manning was claimed off waivers from the Packers ahead of Week 1.

Schilling, 25, was a sixth-round pick out of Michigan in 2011. A “tweener” guard/tackle, Schilling was primarily a special teams blocker last year.

A restricted free agent, Schilling wasn’t tendered a contract by the Bolts after playing only 59 snaps last season. A “tweener” guard/tackle, Schilling won’t be guaranteed a spot on the 53-man roster in Seattle, though he can contribute on special teams.

Schilling started three games at center last season and would give Seattle another in-house candidate to replace Max Unger. 26-year-old Schilling should be available for the veteran minimum.

The Seahawks had been trying to re-sign Schilling to compete at center, but he’s decided to hang up his cleats. The 2011 sixth-rounder was limited to eight games (three starts) by a knee injury last season, but says health isn’t the reason he’s walking away. “It was time to move on,” is how reporter Bob Condotta interpreted Schilling’s words. Schilling turns 27 in July.

Schilling doesn’t have ideal length (6'4/308, 32 3/4" arms) for an NFL offensive tackle, but the Bolts apparently like his mean streak. Most likely, the sixth-round pick will wind up as a swing reserve at both guard and right tackle.

Schilling is limited athletically, but he managed to start all four years for the Wolverines. “He just spent too much time on the ground,” says NFL Network’s Mike Mayock. Schilling simply lacks NFL talent. He is versatile, which will help his chances of lasting as a backup.

The Chargers gave Schilling a $78,000 signing bonus as a sixth-round pick, hoping he’d be able to play tackle after starring at guard at Michigan. It predictably didn’t work. Bryant was a mammoth of a man at 6-foot-8, 320.

Schilling played guard at Michigan, but the Chargers will try him out at right tackle in training camp in order to increase his versatility. The team is reportedly high on Schilling’s “mean streak,” but he’ll be in a race to make the roster.
