Redskins seventh-round ILB Steven Daniels will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery on Monday.
He needs surgery to repair a torn labrum. Daniels followed his former high school teammate and fellow linebacker Luke Kuechly to Boston College, where he logged 266 tackles, 10.5 sacks and three interceptions over four seasons. Daniels will “redshirt” as a rookie and return to try to make the team in 2017.
  • FA Linebacker #43
Redskins waived ILB Steven Daniels, LB Rufus Johnson, C Quinton Schooley and WR Reggie Diggs.
A 2016 seventh-round pick, Daniels missed his entire rookie year with a shoulder injury. Already 24, he’s up against it to carve out an NFL career.
  • FA Linebacker #43
Eagles claimed ILB Steven Daniels off waivers from the Redskins.
Daniels spent all of 2016 on IR after getting drafted in the seventh round last year. He’s a low risk flyer for the Eagles. Daniels should be healthy for OTAs.
  • FA Linebacker #43
Redskins signed No. 232 overall pick ILB Steven Daniels to a four-year, $2.581 million contract.
The deal includes a $77,296 signing bonus. A two-down thumper, Daniels will compete for a role behind Will Compton, Mason Foster, and Perry Riley, but his early-career contributions will likely come on special teams.
  • FA Linebacker #43
    Eagles signed LB Steven Daniels.
A seventh-round pick of the Redskins last year, Daniels spent the entire season on I.R. after needing shoulder surgery. He fills the roster spot vacated by Marcus Smith and will compete for a job covering kicks and playing special teams.
  • FA Linebacker #43
Redskins selected Boston College ILB Steven Daniels with the No. 232 overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft.
Daniels (6'0/243) started 35 games at B.C., logging 30 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks. As the Eagles’ starting middle linebacker in 2015, Daniels earned first-team All-ACC honors as the playcaller for the nation’s No. 1-ranked defense. A two-down, north-south thumper, Daniels has some Stephen Tulloch to him as a physical overachiever who stamps out the run. Daniels’ non-stop motor helps atone for his average athleticism, possessing 4.86 speed with a 9-foot-4 broad jump. He should open his career on special teams and eventually push for snaps inside.
