Sixth-round RB Theo Riddick was mostly working behind undrafted free agent Steven Miller in Lions rookie minicamp.
It may have just been a way for the Lions to get a longer look at Miller, but it’s proof Riddick’s roster spot is far from assured. With Reggie Bush, Mikel Leshoure and Joique Bell all locks for roster spots, Riddick is going to have to be on his game in training camp.
  • FA Running Back #40
Lions undrafted RB Steven Miller “turned a few eyes” in spring practices.
Tim Twentyman of the team’s official website reports it’s “very clear” that Miller is “explosive” and “reaches a gear others don’t.” At 5-foot-7 and 173 pounds, Miller is severely undersized, but he did run for 1,368 yards and 11 touchdowns on 239 carries as Appalachian State’s No. 1 back last season. Twentyman considers Miller a “dark horse” for punt return duties.
  • FA Running Back #40
    Lions waived RB/KR Steven Miller.
Undersized but explosive as a kick returner and scatback type, Miller showed well throughout his time with the Lions, but they’re keeping draft pick Theo Riddick instead. Miller is a prime candidate for the practice squad.
  • FA Running Back #40
Lions signed RB Steven Miller to the practice squad.
An undersized scatback, Miller could eventually get a look as a return man.
