Green Bay officially “announced” that rookies Tony Moll and Jason Spitz would start at guard in Week 1.
Moll, a converted tight end by way of tackle, passed second-round pick Daryn Colledge on the depth chart. The success of Green Bay’s offense will depend a lot on the rookies.

    Chargers signed OL Tony Moll.
Moll played 60 games for the Packers and Ravens from 2006-2010. He has the versatility to play tackle or guard, which is a necessity with three Bolts starters banged up in Week 11.

    Redskins signed OT Tony Moll.
He’ll provide veteran insurance for RT Jammal Brown, who is out indefinitely with pain in both hips. A fifth-round pick in 2006, Moll also has experience at guard. Moll appeared in just three games for the Chargers last season, but appeared in all 16 for the Ravens in 2010. If he cracks the Redskins’ 53-man roster, it won’t speak well to Brown’s health.

    Redskins released G/T Tony Moll.
It’s not a good sign for Moll’s NFL future that the move comes on the same day the Redskins revealed RT Jammal Brown underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament in his hip. Moll is still only 29 years old, but has appeared in just 24 games the past three seasons, 16 of which came in 2009. His capability of playing both guard and tackle should keep him on the radar, however.

Packers T Tony Moll had his neck and shoulder examined by a specialist this week.
The reserve tackle hasn’t played this preseason because of a nerve problem in that area. He is expected to be ready for Week 1.
  • Packers starting right guard Jason Spitz could miss some time with the strained quad he suffered against the Lions in Week 17.
Left guard Junius Coston could also miss a couple of weeks with a calf strain, leaving the Packers concerned about playing Daryn Colledge and Tony Moll at both guard spots in their first playoff game. The Packers will have a better idea once they return to practice on Friday.
