The Vikings are giving seventh-round OL Travis Bond a shot to earn swing-tackle duties.
Bond played guard at North Carolina, but has tackle size at 6-foot-6, 329 with 35.5-inch arms. “I think I can do it,” Bond said. The Vikings are thin behind starting tackles Matt Kalil and Phil Loadholt, but limited athletically, we doubt Bond has the skill to make the transition from ACC guard to NFL tackle as a rookie.
  • Vikings agreed to terms with No. 214 overall pick OG Travis Bond on a four-year contract.
Bond is an imposing 6-foot-5, 329 pounds with 35.5-inch arms, but is limited athletically. He managed just a 22.5-inch vertical leap at the Combine to go along with an 8-foot-2 broad jump. He’ll have to prove he’s more than just a big body to earn a roster spot.
  • Vikings selected North Carolina OG Travis Bond with the No. 214 overall pick.
Bond (6-5, 329) is a massive specimen with 35 1/2-inch arms. He made 29 starts for the Tar Heels, primarily at right guard. While Bond possesses an explosive hand punch, athletic limitations will keep him inside despite tackle-like size. He managed a vertical “leap” of just 22.5 inches at the Combine, and a broad jump of 8-foot-2. He’ll have to show something in camp to earn a reserve spot along the Vikings’ line.
  • Rams claimed OL Travis Bond off waivers from the Panthers.
Waived by the linemen-needy Panthers on Monday, Bond will be a camp body for the Rams.
  • Panthers waived OLs Travis Bond, Michael Jasper, and Phillipkeith Manley, and signed P Jordan Gay.
It’s not a great sign for offensive linemen when they’re getting cut by an offensive linemen-needy team in May. Gay will be a camp leg behind Brad Nortman.
