Patmon

Initially signed as a UDFA with Dallas back in ’14, Patmon’s served as subpar slot corner with both the Cowboys and Jaguars since entering the league. He faces an uphill battle to make it out of camp even with the Dolphins experimenting on defense.

They’re calling it a “strain.” Patmon has been filling in for D.J. Hayden as the Jaguars’ slot corner.

An undrafted sophomore, Patmon played 117 snaps his rookie year. Draft bust Morris Claiborne is expected to start opposite Brandon Carr on the outside, and rookie Byron Jones could push for snaps as well. No matter how they decide to line up, the Cowboys’ secondary is considerably worse without Scandrick.

A second-year UDFA, Patmon spent a lot of time in the slot this season, but was routinely burned. The Dallas Morning News reports Patmon was cut loose because he wasn’t physical enough. The Cowboys want to evaluate some other players down the stretch of a lost year.

He intercepted Ryan Tannehill on the Dolphins’ first drive of the second half, and took a Matt Moore pass 9-yards to the house in the fourth quarter. Patmon earned an invite to Cowboys’ camp after a strong showing at the team’s rookie minicamp, and may have earned a spot on the 53-man roster with his performance Saturday. Patmon has eight tackles and three pass breakups this preseason.

Patmon went into the locker room for x-rays. He had been playing as the fourth corner in the Cowboys’ dime formation.
