The Saints need an extra body up front after losing Sheldon Rankins to a torn Achilles’ tendon. A Ram in 2017, Walker spent the regular season on the street.

The second-year undrafted free agent limped off the field, but had to be carted once he reached the sideline. He’s almost certainly done for the day. Walker is just a reserve, but it’s bad news for a Saints’ front seven that’s already decimated by injury.

Walker practiced fully all week. It’s not clear how questionable he is given the league’s new injury rules. A’Shawn Robinson or Khyri Thornton would start if Walker doesn’t play.

It is a surprise considering he started eight of the first nine games. Khyri Thornton and A’Shawn Robinson should see more snaps with Walker out.

Walker started a career high eight games last season before being benched down the stretch for the Lions. His stock has really dropped since he drew a decent amount of interest in 2015 free agency. He has zero sacks since 2014, and fared poorly against the run last season. He’s pure depth.

Walker made it three months on the Rams’ 90-man roster. He was making just $775,000. His release is an ominous sign after he was benched down the stretch for the Lions last season. Walker turned 27 in March.

Walker has been under investigation since an alleged February incident. The accusations were made by a pair of teenage women against Walker and another man. The women believe they were drugged. Walker’s NFL career appears over.

The Rams released Walker in June for an off-field incident that was later cleared. He’s a veteran flyer after fading down the stretch for the Lions last year. Walker’s return gives the Rams some depth with Aaron Donald holding out.

After losing both Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley and choosing not to re-sign C.J. Mosley, the Lions acquired Ngata and Walker before spending a fourth-round pick on Gabe Wright at defensive tackle. Walker was a role player for the Saints, but flashed in limited snaps. The Lions are banking on Walker and second-year DT Caraun Reid to take steps forward on the interior.
