BYU junior forward Yoeli Childs announced Wednesday that he will enter the 2019 NBA Draft.
Childs (6'8/225) intends to hire an agent, meaning that he will forego his final year of eligibility to turn pro. The junior forward, a first team All-WCC selection each of the last two seasons, made his declaration one day after BYU head coach Dave Rose announced his retirement. This season Childs made 32 starts for the Cougars, averaging 21.2 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game with shooting splits of 50.7/32.3/70.8. While the three-point percentage isn’t all that impressive, Childs did improve as a shooter throughout his time at BYU and has the ability to be a pick and pop four. Childs isn’t projected to be selected in this year’s draft, but he’s skilled enough to earn a summer league invite if his name isn’t called in late June.
