Russell is being promoted from the practice squad with Richard Marshall (back) sidelined for Sunday’s game against the Colts. The Dolphins released WR Anthony Armstrong in a corresponding move.

Russell adds much-needed depth with Haroki Nakamura (groin) joining Sherrod Martin (knee) on injured reserve.

A fourth-year undrafted free agent, Russell has appeared in eight career games, three of which came with the Panthers in 2012. He’s just offseason roster depth.

Undrafted rookie Anderson Russell was signed to take his spot. Horton’s injury, suffered prior to the Week 9 bye, appears to be a high ankle sprain. A rookie starter in 2008, Horton fell out of the safety rotation under new defensive coordinator Jim Haslett. He won’t be guaranteed a job in 2011.

Russell, an undrafted rookie out of Ohio State, suffered the injury in his second appearance after signing from the practice squad. He finishes the year with two tackles, and will compete for a roster spot in 2011 camp.

Oldenburg didn’t get many reps in camp behind Washington’s healthy starting five linemen. Anderson, an Ohio State alum, tore his ACL last November.
