The PGA Tour heads to Atlanta, Georgia, for the Tour Championship. The Tour Championship represents the culmination of the PGA Tour season and the final round of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Defending champion Patrick Cantlay hopes to build off his BMW win, usurp Scottie Scheffler from the top spot, and win back-to-back FedEx Cups. With the staggered start, the best value comes from the placement market. Here are a couple of placement bets that have caught my attention.
These odds can be found on PointsBet Sportsbook:
Sam Burns to finish top-10 (-110)
I’m sticking with Burns this week in the outright and placement markets. Burns starts 5-under in fourth place. There’s serious competition behind him, but I like the head start for a guy who is a good ball striker. We get a bit of a discount after his 19th at the BMW, where he at one point seemed to be challenging for the lead, but poor putting and driving over the weekend held him from making a run. I can forgive Burns for losing -1.3 strokes off-the-tee in the 4th round and -1.5 strokes putting in the 3rd. Two of his strongest skills are off the tee and putting. Both should correct this week, and with an advantage, it’s a top-10 finish for him.
Tony Finau to finish top-5 (+225)
I’m taking a shot on Finau to finish top-5 despite his T6 starting position. There’s no question that Finau has been the hottest golfer over the past few weeks and probably would’ve been in contention last week had it not been for his forgettable Thursday. That 6-over-77 was followed up with 68-67-68 and a T28 placement. He certainly ended the week on a high note.Finau’s newly found putter makes him a threat every week. Even in his T28 finish, he gained +3.2 strokes on the field. It won’t often be where Finau loses strokes on approach. I expect a big bounce back from him. This weekend, a top-5 finish from him would be his highest at the Tour Championship
