NL CY YOUNG: Jacob deGrom (-750)

Look no further as there is no competition for this award.

Brandon Woodruff has the second-best odds at +1200, so this is about as much of a runaway as possible. Even if Jacob deGrom misses time down the line, this should be his.

Here is the top 10 on PointsBet in terms of odds and good luck finding some competition for deGrom.

Speaking of missing time, the best pitcher in the game turned down the option of pitching in the All-Star Game. As New York sits at 45-38 atop the NL East standings, deGrom knows what is at stake.

An injury could throw this season away, and with this roster, no way deGrom wants that to happen.

deGrom owns a 1.08 ERA (1st) across 15 starts and 92.0 innings. deGrom was under 1.00 ERA for the season, 0.92 to be exact, up until his last start.

He has a 7-2 record and ranks first in strikeouts (146) despite pitching three fewer games than the Phillies’ Zack Wheeler (145), who is in second.

The Mets’ ace has a WHIP of 0.54 (1st) and an OBA of .126 (1st). He has been as dominant as it gets. Before allowing seven earned runs in the past three starts, deGrom had five games straight with no earned runs and four total over 12 starts.

At home, he owns a 1.20 ERA, while opponents hit .116. deGrom has 92 strikeouts to seven walks over 60.0 innings at home. On the road, he is 3-0 in five starts and posts an 0.84 ERA with 54 strikeouts over 32.0 innings and a .147 OBA.

For as amazing as deGrom has been over his career, at age 33, this is his best season yet. His K/BB ratio is 13.3, crushing his previous career-high of 5.8. During the substance era and the rough patch for pitchers, this season is even more impressive.

deGrom could be on his way to his first-ever 300 strikeout season. Only 19 pitchers since 1900 have ever done it.

Historically, there have been some greats to achieve 300 Ks in one season: Nolan Ryan (six times), Randy Johnson (six times), Sandy Koufax (three times), Curt Schilling (three times), Pedro Martinez (two times), Justin Verlander (once), Max Scherzer (once), Gerrit Cole (once), Chris Sale (once) and Clayton Kershaw (once) to name a few.

Verlander was the latest to do so in 2019, the season he won CY Young. That was also the last year deGrom won when he won back-to-back seasons, and he is a better pitcher now.

The NL CY Young is a runaway this season, and at -750, no one can argue that. His odds were +100 on May 5th and, after that, nothing but the favorite, per NBC’s futures model.

Congrats if you grabbed deGrom preseason because you are getting paid once the season ends. I like deGrom for MVP too, where he sits at +115 ahead of Fernando Tatis Jr. (+160) and Ronald Acuna (+450).

Odds wise, back deGrom to be MVP for +115, but he will be both the MVP and CY Young winner.

Pick: Jacob deGrom (-750) and MVP (+115)
