Washington Nationals (+165) vs. Atlanta Braves (-196) Total: 8.5

NL East rivals Atlanta and Washington meet up this evening for a holiday showdown. The Braves are currently in second place in the NL East while Washington holds the last spot in the division. The Nationals are still in the hunt, however, as they’re only six games behind the division-leading New York Mets.

When these teams open their four-game series tonight, it will be their third series meeting of the season. The Braves have been victorious in five of the six matchups so far. The Braves will send Charlie Morton to the mound while the Nationals counter with Joe Ross.

Charlie Morton got off to a slow start this season but he has really picked it up over the course of his last two games. Last week vs. the Red Sox, Morton pitched seven scoreless innings while striking out nine. In his previous start, Morton struck out eight Mets while only allowing just one earned run over six innings. This will be his first start of the year vs. the Nationals.

A struggling Joe Ross will get the start today for Washington. Ross has not been good in the month of May, having given up 14 earned runs over 22 innings. He has three losses and no wins through his five starts in May, the main reason Atlanta is such a big favorite tonight.
