BETS
- Ottawa and Buffalo both struggled to keep pucks out of the net last season (22nd and 25th in the league in goals against average), but both Anton Forsberg and Craig Anderson had moments where they looked like legitimate first-string goaltenders. Anderson’s “good” was fantastic, but his “bad” was awful; Forsberg’s form was much more consistent, owning a .921 save percentage from early February through the end of the season. Each of these teams possess great young talent, but I’m leaning toward the veteran netminders in tonight’s contest. The overlaid price on UNDER 6.5 goals being scored is too generous to pass on.
- Arizona’s goaltending situation was a mess last year, and there’s really no reason to think things will be any different for the Coyotes this season. Pittsburgh, meanwhile, got a great season from Tristan Jarry, however his overall body of work would suggest he’s far from a sure thing to repeat his .919 save percentage and 2.42 goals against average. I’m hoping the stars shine bright in Pittsburgh this evening, with OVER 6.5 goals being scored a distinct possibility at odds of -105.
- Last season’s Presidents’ Trophy winners begin their ’22-'23 campaign on Long Island tonight against the New York Islanders, a team that’s always a tough squad to tackle. Nonetheless, Florida’s offensive firepower – led by newly acquired Matthew Tkachuk – should be more than enough to get the job done against an Islanders team that has consistently found goals hard to come by over the past four seasons. Florida’s moneyline price of -140 is a bit juicy for my liking, but their 3-way moneyline (must win in regulation) price of +105 is certainly playable.
- Many will look at Jake Oettinger‘s playoff run as nothing more than a hot streak, but it was my belief entering last season that the Boston University product was the best goaltender in the Stars’ system – period. I believe his historic series against the Flames last postseason was a sign of things to come, and hopefully tonight’s game in Nashville against the Predators is just the beginning of something bigger and better. Dallas has great young players like Jason Robertson and Miro Heiskanen to help set the tone, and I think their moneyline price of +115 is a substantial overlay.
- Los Angeles may have lost their first game of the season in devastating fashion to the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday; however, they showed serious mettle and should get the job done against a mediocre Kraken squad this evening. Seattle will be playing the second half of back-to-backs, and a replica of L.A.'s performance from Tuesday should be enough to get the job done. Their moneyline price is too steep for me, but their puck line price of +150 is playable.
