Raiders coach Tom Cable indicated Wednesday that Nnamdi Asomugha (ankle) is likely to return to the lineup in Week 12.
It sounds like taking off Week 11 rather than trying to play through the injury paid off, despite a blowout loss to Pittsburgh. “He’s much better today, practiced well and I think he’s fine,” said Cable of Asomugha. The shutdown corner’s return to the lineup is slightly concerning for Brian Hartline.
  • FA Wide Receiver #83
Brian Hartline caught four passes for 47 yards and a touchdown Monday night against New England.
He drew the start opposite Brandon Marshall. Hartline made multiple nice grabs, but also had some ugly drops. The touchdown was an impressive grab across the middle from 10 yards out against Leigh Bodden. Hartline should eventually be pushed by rookie Clyde Gates, but for now he’s a starter. That being said, you can safely stay away in fantasy leagues.
  • FA Wide Receiver #83
Brian Hartline caught just two passes for 36 yards against the Texans in Week 2.
Hartline had a beautiful toe-tapping sideline grab for 25 yards. It was an inefficient performance overall, though, as Hartline reeled in just two of seven targets. He belongs on the waiver wire in 12-team leagues.
  • FA Wide Receiver #83
Brian Hartline caught four passes for 87 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Browns.
With Joe Haden all over Brandon Marshall, Hartline came up big. He made a pretty catch over Sheldon Brown for a 38-yard catch in the second half and was a main target on third downs along with Davone Bess. But for fantasy owners, this is the ceiling. We can do better for wideout depth.
  • FA Tackle #72
The Dolphins have reportedly begun “exploratory” contract talks with LT Jake Long, OLB Cameron Wake, and WR Brian Hartline.
Long is looking to bypass the Browns’ Joe Thomas ($30 million guaranteed) as the highest-paid tackle in the game after voiding the final year of his rookie contract. One of the most underpaid players in the NFL, Wake is due to $615,000 in base salary this season. All three players are slated to hit free agency in 2013, along with RB Reggie Bush, DE Randy Starks, CB Sean Smith, and TE Anthony Fasano.
  • FA Wide Receiver #83
Brian Hartline caught three passes for 69 yards in the Dolphins’ Week 15 win over the Bills.
Hartline worked against rookie Aaron Williams and primarily ran go routes. He showed great adjustment on the ball over his shoulder on a 33-yard grab and ended up with his third-highest yardage total of the season. Still, there’s not enough consistency here to consider a spot start against the Patriots in Week 16. Hartline had one catch in four of five games leading up to today.
  • FA Wide Receiver #83
Brian Hartline was held to nine yards on one reception in Week 14 against the Raiders.
Hartline was targeted just twice on Sunday, continuing with his season-long pattern of inconsistency. He is on pace for 33 catches and just under 500 yards with one touchdown on the season. Hartline is well off the fantasy radar in most formats.
  • FA Wide Receiver #83
Brian Hartline caught four passes for 72 yards in the Dolphins’ Week 16 loss to the Patriots.
Hartline was second in targets on the day with eight. Matt Moore trusts him on go routes up the left sideline, so he’s always a decent bet for a big-play opportunity or two. The problem is they aren’t reliable plays. Hartline has been held to one catch or fewer in six games this season. He’ll finish up against the Jets’ elite corners.
  • FA Wide Receiver #83
Brian Hartline managed just two catches for 16 yards in Week 17 against the Jets.
Hartline failed to establish himself as the Dolphins clear-cut starter opposite Brandon Marshall this year, but is viewed as a solid, all-around receiver and capable blocker. He is expected to compete with Cylde Gates and Davone Bess for playing time next season.
  • FA Wide Receiver #83
Brian Hartline caught four passes for 77 yards in the Dolphins’ Thanksgiving loss to the Cowboys in Week 12.
Hartline drew a key first-half pass interference call to set up a 28-yard field goal try for Shayne Graham. He came back with a highlight-reel 41-yard reception over the top of Alan Ball in the third quarter. Essentially a younger version of Kevin Walter, Hartline is a better player than his stats indicate, but his week-to-week targets are incredibly inconsistent. This was Hartline’s second game over 47 receiving yards all season.
