    Mitchell was signed to a minor league deal back in July after being released by the Phillies earlier in the summer. The 30-year-old will have a chance to make his first appearance in the majors since 2018 when he was a part of the San Diego rotation.

    Mitchell, 30, hasn’t appeared in the majors since the 2018 campaign when he made 16 appearances (11 starts) with the Padres. He posted an uninspiring 6.04 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 20/16 K/BB ratio across 28 1/3 innings (20 appearances) with Triple-A Lehigh Valley before being released by the Phillies earlier this summer. He’ll give the Marlins some organizational relief depth over the final two months.

    Mitchell spent last season at the alternate site for the White Sox, but he’s previously pitched for the Padres and Yankees. There’s a connection here with Joe Girardi from his time in New York, so it makes sense that he found a home here. The 29-year-old will offer some bullpen depth for Philly.
