Seahawks acquired CB C.J. Smith from the Browns in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2020.
Smith played only nine snaps for last year’s Browns, but the Seahawks are taking a flyer on him for his athleticism. A 2016 undrafted free agent out of North Dakota State, Smith stands 5-foot-11, 188 and jumped 39 inches vertically with an explosive 10-foot-11 broad jump at his Pro Day. The Seahawks are shallow at corner behind Shaq Griffin and Justin Coleman.

Broncos claimed CB C.J. Smith off waivers from the Browns.
The Browns almost traded Smith to the Seahawks last month but the deal was nixed after he failed his physical. Smith spent most of last year on Cleveland’s practice squad and will need to show well in camp to crack the Broncos’ 53-man roster.

The Seahawks’ trade for CB C.J. Smith has been nullified by the NFL.
Reasons for the nullification are unknown, but it’s possible Smith failed his physical. He will revert to the Browns’ 90-man roster for the time being.
