Royals 1B prospect Chris DeVito pounded his fifth home run Monday in a win for Rookie-level Burlington.
The 2016 eighth-round pick has burst onto the scene with a brilliant opening month. DeVito has already scored 13 runs this year, fifth-most in the Appalachian League. He’s also sixth in slugging percentage (.565) and ninth in OPS (.922). The 21-year-old hit .375 with 16 HR and 65 RBI this spring in his junior year at New Mexico. DeVito offers top-end power but his bat speed is below average, which could lead to a high strikeout rate.

    Royals released 1B Chris DeVito.
DeVito, an eighth-round pick in 2016, was batting just .181/.280/.226 with one home run through 255 plate appearances this season at High-A Wilmington. The 23-year-old will try to latch on with a different organization.
