North Texas senior RB DeAndre Torrey will declare for the NFL draft.
No surprise after Torrey (5’7”/195) elected to opt out of North Texas’ bowl game. Torrey had an amazing season with 1,329 yards from scrimmage and 14 total touchdowns. He may not be big in stature, but his speed and quick cuts through the tackles are going to make him a great change of pace back at the next level.

  • North Texas senior RB DeAndre Torrey rushed 23 times for 108 yards and three touchdowns as the Mean Green downed the Roadrunners 45-23 on Saturday.
In what was the biggest win for North Texas on the season, Torrey (5'7/195) saved one of his best games for last. He found the end zone on three separate occasions in this one, rushing for scores from two, four and 19-yards out. Surprisingly, North Texas never trailed in this game against the once undefeated Roadrunners, as a stout defense and elite ground game kept the Mean Green out front throughout. Now officially bowl eligible, the Mean Green should have one more game on the season.

  • Isaiah Johnson
    UNT #23
North Texas sophomore RB Isaiah Johnson (undisclosed) has been ruled out for Saturday’s game against UTSA.
Johnson (6'0/216), who has rushed for 338 yards and four touchdowns, is not expected to play again this season for the Mean Green. If there’s a silver lining in this cloud, it’s that Nort Texas will still have its top three backs available for Saturday’s game. DeAndre Torrey will continue to lead the way, with Ayo Adeji and Ikaika Ragsdale also set to take reps.

  • North Texas senior RB DeAndre Torrey scored twice and ran for 109 yards in a 49-7 shellacking on Saturday of FIU.
Torrey and Ikaika Ragsdale were able to do whatever the heck they wanted in this game, and while Ragsdale led the team in rushing attempts (19) and went over 100 himself, that’s mainly because this game became a blowout and the 5-foot-7, 195-pound tailback wasn’t needed late. He scored one of five rushing touchdowns with a 50-yard dash that gave the Mean Green a 21-0 lead, and the rout was on. Torrey will need to be at his best next Saturday if North Texas is to keep it close or upset UTSA next Saturday.

  • North Texas senior RB DeAndre Torrey rushed 18 times for 61 yards in the 20-17 win over UTEP on Saturday.
Torrey (5'7/195) continues to see a dip in playing time as he’s struggling to move the ball. He held the bell row role for most of the season but now has less than 20 carries in three consecutive games. This is all due to the rise of Isaiah Johnson who now has 16 or more carries in two straight games. The Mean Green have won three consecutive games after previously losing six straight, so it looks like this committee is here to stay. North Texas (4-6, C-USA 3-3) will travel to take on Florida Internation next Saturday.

  • North Texas senior RB DeAndre Torrey (lower body) is expected to be available for Saturday’s game against UTEP.
Torrey (5'7/195) was injured during the first half of last weekend’s game against Southern Miss. The senior running back, who has been the Mean Green’s top option in the backfield, is expected to see action Saturday afternoon. The only question is how many carries will Torrey get.

  • North Texas senior RB DeAndre Torrey (lower body) was helped off the field during the first half of Saturday’s game at Southern Miss.
Torrey (5'7/195) has been nagged by an ankle issue in recent weeks, and the fear is that he aggravated the injury. The senior running back has been North Texas’ best option in the backfield, so the Mean Green would take a major hit if he’s unable to return. Torrey entered Saturday having rushed for 896 yards and eight touchdowns, with an average of 5.0 yards per carry.

  • North Texas senior RB DeAndre Torrey rushed for 43 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries in a 30-24 win over Rice on Saturday afternoon.
This was not your standard game from Torrey (5'7/195). This was his first game since week two against SMU with less than 20 touches and his first game with less than 70 yards rushing. As the game progressed, Torrey got fewer and fewer touches, including not touching the ball once after the third quarter. This was a big win for the Mean Green, as they were 1-6 and on a six-game losing streak. They return to face Southern Miss next Saturday.

  • North Texas senior RB DeAndre Torrey rushed 29 times for 73 yards and one touchdown as the Mean Green fell to Liberty 35-26.
Torrey (5'7/195) found the end zone on a two-yard rushing touchdown to give North Texas an early 7-0 lead over Liberty early in the first quarter. In large, Torrey struggled in this one, rushing to the tune of 2.5 yards per carry while never going for more than 15 yards on any single play. Heading into this one, Torrey boasted a rushing line of 135/780/6 (5.8 YPC). He will look to resume his strong running next week at Rice.

  • North Texas senior RB DeAndre Torrey rushed 20 times for 179 yards and two touchdowns in Friday’s 49-21 loss to Marshall.
Torrey’s (5'7/191) big run of the day came on a 75-yard scamper in the second quarter to give North Texas its first score of the day after Marshall had already taken a 35-0 lead. The Mean Green have grown to master garbage time in recent weeks, as they outscored Marshall 14-7 in the fourth quarter, which included a 51-yard touchdown run by Torrey with 10:40 left to go in a game they trailed by five scores at the time. North Texas has lost five straight, and will host Liberty next Saturday.
