Packers signed K Lucas Havrisik, OT Brant Banks, DL Dante Barnett, OG Karsen Barnhart, DL Anthony Campbell, TE McCallan Castles, OT Dalton Cooper, TE Drake Dabney, DL James Ester, CB Tyron Herring, LB Jamon Johnson, RB Damien Martinez, S Mark Perry, WR Will Sheppard, RB Pierre Strong Jr. and TE Messiah Swinson to reserve/futures contracts.
Havrisik hit 4-of-4 field goals and 7-of-9 extra points this year, and the Packers seemed to be developing him as kicker of the future — whatever that means in the NFL — while letting him stay on the practice squad. With Brandon McManus’ job officially under scrutiny, it’s possible he eventually gets the Packers kicker gig.
  • FA Tight End #85
    Panthers waived TE Messiah Swinson.
Where’s your Messiah now? Waivers. He’s on waivers. The Panthers signed him off Green Bay’s practice squad earlier in the season. If Swinson clears he’ll likely take his hulking (6-foot-7, 259-pound) frame to another practice squad.
  • CAR Tight End #85
Panthers declared TE Messiah Swinson, C Andrew Raym, OG Jarrett Kingston, S Jammie Robinson, CB Shemar Bartholomew, DE LaBryan Ray, and TE Tommy Tremble inactive for Week 1 against the Saints.
Swinson was signed off the Packers’ practice squad earlier this week but hasn’t had enough time to get up to speed in Carolina. With Tremble out and Ian Thomas on injured reserve, the Panthers are down to just Ja’Tavion Sanders and Jordan Matthews at tight end. Sanders will draw the start and has some TE2 juice to open the year.
  • GB Tight End #43
Former Missouri junior TE Messiah Swinson has committed to Arizona State.
Swinson (6'8/251) brings hulking size to the tight end position, but has turned that size and potential into seven receptions for 84 yards and no touchdowns since committing to Missouri as a three-star recruit in 2018. A native of Glen Head, New York, Swinson had received an offer from Arizona State back in 2018, but opted to go to Missouri instead. Now, with limited production through four seasons, Swinson will look to kickstart what’s left of his collegiate career in 2022.

  • GB Tight End #43
Missouri freshman TE Messiah Swinson is expected to miss the coming season after sustaining a torn left ACL in practice this week.
Swinson (6'0/260) was wearing a brace on Wednesday, with Mizzou confirming his ACL tear on Friday. The three-star true freshman could have potentially seen the field this year, but his loss should not be considered a major one. The Tigers are well-stocked at tight end, between starters Albert Okwuegbunam and Kendall Blanton and backups Logan Christopherson and Brendan Scales.
