One day after rejoining the team following a one-game suspension, it was announced that Miami safety Ray-Ray Armstrong will play this weekend against South Florida.
"[Armstrong] will be in the rotation but will not start” coach Al Golden said after practice today.
Armstrong was suspended for UM’s game against Florida State after a tweet last week mentioned he was having dinner with the president/owner of a PR company that represents professional athletes. While Golden and Miami seem comfortable that no NCAA violations were broken, the timing of Armstrong tweeting that he was at at a restaurant where even a hotdog is $25 with someone who works with pro athletes was straight out of the “C’mon man!” vault.
“How can you do that? There’s a fine balance there between being an educator and having zero tolerance,” Golden said about Armstrong. “At some point, it’s going to be, `Hey, these decisions are irrevocable.’ I don’t think we’re at that point yet. Obviously Ray comes from a great family. They’re disappointed as we’re disappointed.”
Armstrong has recently come back from a four-game suspension for receiving impermissible benefits from former UM booster Nevin Shapiro.
