Alabama releases statement on player arrests

For those looking for a quick boot for the four players arrested Monday on various charges, you’re going to have to wait a little longer.

In a statement attributed to Alabama athletic director Mal Moore (pictured, left), the university expressed disappointment in the actions of four of its football players -- running back Brent Calloway, linebacker Tyler Hayes, defensive lineman D.J. Pettway and defensive back Eddie Williams -- that resulted in felony charges yesterday but stopped short of addressing the futures of the individuals with the football program.

“This is a very serious matter and we are very disappointed in the actions that have resulted in the charges against these student-athletes. In this type of situation, the Athletics Department works in conjunction with the University. We will have more to say at the appropriate time.”

Head coach Nick Saban has yet to comment publicly on the arrests of his players that led to charges ranging from second-degree burglary and fraudulent use of a credit/debit card.
