Whether or not Oregon will get the services of running back LeGarrette Blount back could be determined as early as today, The Oregonian is reporting.
Blount, as you know, has been suspended since the season opener for the Punch Heard ‘Round the College Football World and subsequent meltdown. After initially stating that he was done for the season, head coach Chip Kelly -- with the backing of school officials -- put a plan in place that would allow Blount to return.
The final leg of the plan seemingly occurred yesterday as all of the parties involved held a series of meetings with Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott. The conference must give the go-ahead before Blount can return to action.
Following the meetings, athletic director Mike Bellotti said that he expected a decision on Blount to come down today. Kelly, who said yesterday there is still no timetable for Blount’s return, told reporters that this “plan” devised by the school is about Blount the person, rather than Blount the football player.
“This is not a football decision,’' Kelly said. “If he has an opportunity to come back, then that’s awesome for LeGarrette Blount, but this doesn’t have anything to do with any decisions from a football standpoint.”
