Eric LeGrand: ‘I believe God’s plan is to make me walk again’

It’s been six months since Eric LeGrand suffered a significant spinal cord injury during Rutgers’ game against Army, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down.

He was recently released from the Kessler Institute, and, while he’s made significant progress since sustaining the injury -- including some sensation in parts of his body below his neck -- he’s still unable to walk. LeGrand, though,

Speaking to a group of reporters for the first time since his injury, LeGrand remained upbeat regarding his future and that something positive will come from his ordeal.

“I hope I can inspire a lot of people to never stop believing,” LeGrand said. “I believe God’s plan is to make me walk again. He put me in this position to inspire people. ...

“This is a one-in-a-five-million injury. This doesn’t happen all over. There is a reason why this happened. I was picked for this to happened to. I believe God put me through this because he knows I can fight through this.”

LeGrand, who is still rehabbing three times a week at Kessler, has attended one practice since his release from the rehab center.
