Future of starting Sooners corner uncertain

In what could potentially be a very significant blow to Oklahoma’s defense, the school announced Friday afternoon that starting cornerback Jamell Fleming is not enrolled in school for the spring semester and his future at the school is very much up in the air.

As it stands now, he will not participate in spring practice.

Fleming is reportedly dealing with “a personal matter”, and while Bob Stoops released a statement confirming the unexpected development, the head coach shed very little light on the situation.

“We’re hopeful that Jamell can work through the things he’s facing and resume his college career,” Stoops said a statement.

Fleming led the Sooners with five interceptions in 2010, and was second in the country with 17 passes defended. It was his first-year as a starter, and he received All-Big 12 honors for his performance.

With Fleming unavailable, Aaron Colvin is expected to enter the spring as the starter at one of the corner spots.
