Monday marks the first day official day on the job for new SEC commissioner Greg Sankey, who takes over for the outgoing Mike Slive.
Sankey -- whose Twitter profile picture is of him working out with one of those giant tires -- kicked off the new administrative era with this:It’s June 1. Otherwise known as, “the day the business card changes.” And, yes, it begins its a workout. pic.twitter.com/2YFbXJYUgd

A few pieces of more important SEC-related news than its new commissioner’s workout plan came out over the last few days, if you missed any of it:
- SEC to ban adding transfers disciplined for ‘serious misconduct’
- Field-rushing could cost SEC schools $250,000
- SEC to join satellite camp craze if no national rule is enacted
- SEC set to dole out record revenue to its membership… again
Oh, and Nick Saban’s daughter got married at Bryant-Denny Stadium. That doesn’t have anything to do with Greg Sankey, but it’s cool, so it bears repeating (no pun intended).
One other thing to note about the timing of Sankey’s start to the gig: While Everett Golson never got to the point of requesting a waiver to transfer into the SEC, had he got to that point it could’ve put Sankey/Slive in an awkward position. Let’s say Golson and Alabama requested the SEC waive its transfer policy regarding academic discipline on May 22 so he could play for the Tide.
Would Slive really have wanted one of his final official moves as SEC commissioner to be waiving a rule enacted only a year ago? Or, if he left it for Sankey...would Sankey really have wanted one of his first moves as SEC commissioner to be waiving that rule?
In both case, the answer would likely be no. Luckily for Golson, Slive, Sankey and everyone involved, the transfer never progressed to that point.
