Jeffcoat makes it official: He’s a Longhorn

Long thought to be the front-runner, Texas officially obtained the verbal commitment of one of the top recruits in the country this morning.

In a press conference held at his Texas high school, defensive lineman Jackson Jeffcoat announced that he will attend Texas in 2010 and beyond.

Jeffcoat had recently narrowed his choices down to Texas, Oklahoma State and Houston, but said getting down to one was no easy task.

“This decision took so long because I felt comfortable at all of the schools,” Jeffcoat said according to the Austin American-Statesman.

This could wind up being a huge blue-chip day for the Longhorns. In addition to Jeffcoat -- a top-15 player according to Rivals.com -- linebacker Jordan Hicks will announce this afternoon where he will commit.

Hicks, the No. 16 player in the nation according to Rivals, is down to Texas, Ohio State and Florida.

Much like with Jeffcoat, the Longhorns are believed to be the front-runners, although the Buckeyes have been making late inroads on the West Chester, OH, product.
