Texas will retire the No. 10 jersey of Vince Young in a ceremony at the Longhorns’ season opener on August 30.Young, whose Tennessee Titans conclude the preseason on August 28 and start the regular season on September 7, will attend the ceremony and spend the weekend in Austin at events to benefit his foundation and other local charitable organizations.Young spent four years at Texas, although he redshirted his first year on campus in 2002 and mostly came off the bench during his redshirt freshman year in 2003. In 2004 he became the full-time starter, led the Longhorns to an 11-1 record, and won the Rose Bowl MVP award in a victory over Michigan after the season. In 2005 he led the Longhorns to an undefeated season and national championship, winning the Rose Bowl MVP award again in one of the greatest performances in college football history in Texas’s win over USC.Texas also has retired the numbers of linebacker Tommy Nobis (60), quarterback Bobby Layne (22), running back Earl Campbell (20) and running back Ricky Williams (34).
