Niles Paul ‘optimistic’ about playing in Nebraska’s bowl game

Earlier this month, it was reported that medical personnel gave Niles Paul a better than 50-percent chance of playing in Nebraska’s bowl game.

Nearly two weeks after that prognosis, it’s appearing more and more likely that the wide receiver will be available for the Holiday Bowl tilt with Washington.

Speaking after the team arrived in San Diego Saturday night, Paul told reporters he will practice today and is optimistic that the broken foot that kept him out of the last two games won’t do the same in the postseason.

“I think I’m going to practice (Sunday),” Paul said. “I got to go through a test with (team doctors) to see if I’m ready. Just got to take it day by day. But I’m optimistic about playing.”

Head coach Bo Pelini would only go so far as to say there’s “a good chance” for the senior to play.

Despite missing a total of three games this season, Paul still leads the Cornhuskers in receiving yards (516). He’s second behind Brandon Kinnie in receptions with 39.
