No. 11 Kansas State vs. No. 7 Arkansas
Jan. 6, 8 p.m. ET, FOX
At Arlington, Texas
Collin Klein barely, if at all, got mentioned in the same sentence as the words “Heisman Trophy,” but if there was an award for the player who was purely most valuable to his team, he’d be a front runner.
Seriously, where would the Wildcats be without their jumbo quarterback who does it all. Klein passed for 1,745 yards and 12 touchdowns during the regular season, but more impressively, rushed for 1,099 yards and 26 scores. Although the Sugar Bowl doesn’t think Klein and K-State (10-2) are worthy of the big stage, we surely do.
The Razorbacks, on the other hand, have been without one of their most valuable players all season long, due to an ankle injury that sidelined running back Knile Davis. In spite of that, Arkansas (10-2) went on to lead the SEC in total offense (446 yards per game), fueled by Tyler Wilson’s right arm.
We feel like Klein will be successful in finding the soft spots within one of the SEC’s more generous defenses, but he won’t have the quick strike ability in the fourth quarter to pull off a victory.
Opening point spread: Arkansas by 7 1/2
The pick: Arkansas 34-31
