Less than two days after a season-ending upset to Wyoming in the New Mexico Bowl, Fresno State will now likely have to deal with the loss of their best offensive weapon next season.
According to ESPN.com‘s Joe Schad, and citing sources close to the situation, Bulldogs running back Ryan Mathews will enter the 2010 NFL draft.
In the days leading up to the bowl game, Mathews stated that “it’s hard to tell right now” what his future would hold, although it was widely expected the junior would indeed give up his final year of eligibility for a shot at the NFL.
Mathews averaged just over 151 yards a game this season, tops in the nation.
The 5-11, 220-pound Mathews is the first underclassmen running back to make his intentions known, either officially or via “sources”. Don’t believe us? Click HERE.
