Following a violation of unspecified team rules, Illinois head coach Ron Zook has suspended junior linebacker Ashante Williams indefinitely, a university press release states today.
Williams, who played in all 13 games last year as a junior as a defensive back, was projected to contend for a starting job at linebacker this season. No further word was given as to the reason of the suspension.
The suspension is Williams’ second, the first coming in the form of a one-game ban back in 2009.
