Saban statue pics surface; spring game unveiling in the offing?

Word first surfaced in late January of 2010 that, like the other four Alabama coaches who won a national championship, a statue dedicated to Nick Saban was in the works.

One year and one month later, it appears that the unveiling of the bronze ode to the 2009 title-winning coach is close to coming to fruition.

According to TideSports.com, it’s expected/hoped that the statue (photo on the right by way of TideSports.com) will be ready in time for an unveiling at the annual A-Day spring game April 17. That said, there’s still no official word on when the statue will be dedicated along the school’s Walk of Champions.

“The process is ongoing,” Lane said by e-mail. “I don’t have a timeline or confirmed date for the unveiling. I don’t know when the statue will be completed and transported to Tuscaloosa.”

The unveiling of the statue has already been “delayed” twice. It was tentatively scheduled to be added alongside statues dedicated to Bear Bryant, Wallace Wade, Frank Thomas and Gene Stallings last A-Day, but that timeline proved to be overly optimistic, as did a tentative August date.
