Video of Deshon Marman shows altercation between him, plane captain

Following up on what has to be one of the more bizarre off-the-field stories this summer, New Mexico defensive back Deshon Marman has stated that he is embarrassed by the negative attention surrounding his arrest in San Francisco on Wednesday.

Marman was coming back from a friend’s funeral when a U.S. Airways employee complained that Marman’s pants were below his buttocks but above the knees, and that much of his boxer shorts were exposed”. Marman was arrested and charged with suspicion of trespassing, battery and resisting arrest.

In a statement issued through UNM, Merman said the incident was “not representative of either myself or the University of New Mexico football program” and said the full facts of the matter would come to light at a later point.

Well, it’s a later point, and some of those facts are being made public thanks to a viral video taken of the incident on the plane.

There have been some conflicting reports as to how Marman handled himself upon the request of airline representatives that he pull up his pants. Marman had previously stated in a television station interview that he felt “harassed” by the flight crew and complied with their demands.

The police report states that it took “15 to 20 minutes of talking to get [Marman] to leave the plane, and he was arrested for trespassing”. The report also states Marman resisted officers.

Below is the video of at least part of the exchange.

The video does not give a clear shot of Marman, so it’s hard to determine if he’s, um, “fixed the problem”. It also doesn’t show the whole altercation, so there’s no way to know if Marman became aggressive or belligerent at any point afterward.

By itself, this looks like a kid who just wants to get home.
