Texas’ McGee popped for driving McDrunk

Texas running back Vondrell McGee was arrested early Sunday morning on a drunk-driving charge, the Austin American-Statesman is reporting.

The senior was pulled over by Austin police after officers noticed the headlights on the vehicle being driven by McGee were in a state of non-illumination, which is a dead giveaway at 3:07 a.m. in the morning on a weekend anywhere inside the continental United States.

(There’s no truth to the rumor making the Internet rounds that McGee had a neon sign atop his car that read “I’m drunk! Arrest me!”)

A “cooperative” McGee blew a .125 on his initial BAC lap, and then -- unlike at Texas Motor Speedway this past weekend -- he was able to pick up some speed on his second trip around the track, adding 1/1000th of a second to come in at .126, good enough to put him on the outside pole for the fall’s AAA Texas 500 race.

As if it needs to be written out, he was ultimately charged with driving while intoxicated.

McGee started four games in an injury-plagued 2009 season, finishing with 300 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
