Former West Virginia junior WR Winston Wright Jr. will transfer to Florida State.
Wright (5'10"/180) was the Mountaineers leading receiver in 2021 with 688 receiving yards. With his incredible speed, he played offense and returned kicks which include a 90-yard return for a touchdown this season. FSU quarterback Jordan Travis began the season as mostly a runner, but started to pass more towards the end of the season, he’ll be excited to have a guy like Wright to throw to.

Former West Virginia junior WR Winston Wright Jr. will enter the transfer portal.
The Mountaineers have taken a hit offensively as they’ve lost their starting quarter and their best receiver in the same week. Quarterback Jarret Doege has entered the transfer portal and now so has WVU’s leading receiver Wright (5'10"/180). It will be interesting to watch where both of these players go because they could decide to keep this connection and move to a new program together

  • NYG Wide Receiver #88
West Virginia redshirt junior WR Bryce Ford-Wheaton turned six receptions into 106 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday’s 38-31 victory over Iowa State.
West Virginia had a pair of 100-yard receivers today, with Winston Wright Jr. also going over the century mark. In his fourth year on campus, Ford-Wheaton is breaking out. He’s already set new career-highs in receptions and yards, and, with today’s output, tied his career-high with three touchdown receptions. Ford-Wheaton has four receptions or more in four of the past five games, and six or more in three-of-five. West Virginia (4-4) welcomes Oklahoma State to town next Saturday.

West Virginia junior WR Winston Wright Jr. caught six passes for 86 yards in Saturday’s 45-20 loss to Baylor.
Baylor shut down West Virginia’s rushing attack (2.4 YPC) and raced out to a 28-10 halftime lead. Playing from behind, the Mountaineers threw more than they would have liked to to, but they had problems connecting for explosive aerial plays outside of a 53-yarder via Sam James. Wright’s season-long is 29 yards, but he’s getting more and more involved in the short and intermediate areas, with 22 catches over the past three games. A bye is coming next, with West Virginia (2-3) traveling to TCU in two weeks.

West Virginia junior WR Winston Wright Jr caught nine passes for 106 yards in WVU’s 23-20 loss to Texas Tech.
Wright (5'10"/180) and Isaiah Esdale both broke 100 yards against Texas Tech as the Mountaineers tried to mount a second half comeback, but were ultimately unsuccessful. QB Jarret Doege really started to put it together in the second half, and Wright was a consistent outlet for him. Esdale scored the touchdown and brought down WVU’s biggest play of the night. Unfortunately it wasn’t quite enough. Wilson and the rest of WVU will hope for better results next Saturday against Baylor.

  • FA Wide Receiver #38
West Virginia sophomore WR Winston Wright Jr .caught nine passes for 126 yards in a 34-27 loss to Texas Tech on Saturday.
Wright Jr. had a breakout game against the Sooners with a 6-127 line, and he was almost as good in this one. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound wideout was a three-star signing back in 2019, and he’s already well over the 19-97-0 numbers he put up as a freshman. Expect Wright Jr. to remain involved next Saturday against Kansas State.

  • FA Wide Receiver #38
West Virginia sophomore WR Winston Wright Jr. caught six balls for 127 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s 27-13 loss to Oklahoma State.
Wright turned in a 19-97-0 receiving line as a freshman in 2019. He’s clearly carved out a bigger roll this year, following a 3-31-0 game against EKU in the opener with today’s big afternoon. West Virginia will try to get back on track against Baylor next week.
