Broncos S David Bruton was shaken up in the third quarter of Saturday’s Divisional round playoff game at New England.
Bruton is out for the game with a concussion. He was starting in place of Brian Dawkins. Backups Rahim Moore and Rafael Bush are now the safeties in a 42-7 game with the Patriots still operating out of the no-huddle offense.
  • FA Defensive Back #30
Broncos DC Jack Del Rio has given S David Bruton a long look during the team’s offseason program.
Bruton primarily played special teams in his first four seasons, and saw just 34 snaps on defense last year. At 6-foot-2 and 211 pounds, Bruton is bigger than Mike Adams, the incumbent starter at strong safety. Quentin Jammer is also posing a legitimate threat to start this year.
  • FA Defensive Back #30
According to the Denver Post, the Broncos are “hoping to re-sign” free agent S David Bruton.
Bruton played just 35 snaps on defense last season, but is a special teams linchpin. Unless someone wants to give the former fourth-round pick a chance on defense, Bruton should be back in Denver.
  • FA Defensive Lineman #92
The Broncos are working to re-sign free agents DT Kevin Vickerson and S David Bruton.
Vickerson received the most extensive playing time of his career in 2012, and he responded with 40 tackles and two sacks as a stout run defender in the middle. Denver is paper thin at defensive tackle right now, and re-signing Vickerson is likely a priority. Bruton is a core special-teamer.
  • FA Defensive Back #30
    Broncos re-signed S David Bruton to a three-year, $4.5 million contract.
25-year-old Bruton doesn’t play on defense, but he is a force as a special teams gunner. His return should not affect Denver’s plans to upgrade at safety.
  • FA Defensive Back #30
CSN Mid-Atlantic reports David Bruton is getting the “first crack” at the Redskins’ strong safety job.
Rich Tandler said Duke Ihenacho would have to be “clearly superior” in training camp to unseat Bruton, who started just eight games in his seven years with the Broncos. He does have a fourth-round pedigree, however, and showed well as a short stint as a starter before breaking his leg last season. DeAngelo Hall is locked in at free safety.
  • FA Defensive Back #30
Coach Jay Gruden said SS David Bruton is the early favorite to start.
Bruton is getting first-team reps opposite DeAngelo Hall at OTAs. He’s been a rotational safety/backup his entire career, but is coming off a strong 2015 before going down late in the year. With second-rounder Su’a Cravens also slated for snaps, Bruton may not have an every-down role even if he wins the job.
  • FA Defensive Back #30
Redskins placed SS David Bruton on injured reserve with a concussion.
Bruton is being replaced by 31-year-old SS Donte Whitner. Bruton was signed to a three-year deal in the offseason, but graded out as Pro Football Focus’ No. 79 safety out of 81 qualifiers after four weeks. He was particularly bad in run defense for a Redskins unit that hasn’t been able to stop the run. Whitner will help there. Bruton will be out a minimum of eight weeks.
  • FA Defensive Back #30
Free agent SS David Bruton worked out for the Ravens on Wednesday.
Bruton was cut by Washington earlier this month. A concussion sent him to injured reserve when he was on the Redskins but he seems to have recovered. Bruton graded out as one of the worst safeties in football when healthy this year.
  • FA Defensive Back #30
    Redskins waived SS David Bruton.
Bruton was placed on injured reserve with a concussion about two months ago. He was having a dismal year before his injury, grading out as PFF’s No. 79 safety out of 81 qualifiers. Bruton inked a three-year, $9 million deal with Washington last offseason.
