Jets ILB David Harris was forced from Sunday’s Week 17 game with a calf injury.
Harris was shown on the sideline with his calf wrapped and will not return. Rookie Nick Bellore replaces him at inside linebacker.
  • FA Linebacker #45
Jets ILB David Harris dropped a few pounds this offseason.
Harris likely lost the weight in order to help him get quicker in pass coverage. He’ll be a three-down linebacker for the Jets once again this season, but IDP owners should be reaching for more upside. Harris’ fluky four interceptions last season masked his disappointing 86 tackles.
  • FA Tight End #81
Coach Rex Ryan expects TE Dustin Keller (hamstring) and LB David Harris (ankle) to be ready for Week 1 versus the Bills.
Hamstring injuries are notorious for lingering and setbacks, so Keller remains a high-risk fantasy pick in a subpar offense. We prefer Greg Olsen, Kyle Rudolph or Jared Cook as borderline TE1 options.
  • FA Linebacker #45
Jets ILB David Harris (ankle) confirmed he will play against the Bills in Week 1.
Harris says he merely has a slight sprain. He ate up the Bills in 2011, racking up 13 tackles, one sack and one interception in their two meetings.
  • FA Linebacker #45
Jets ILB David Harris exited Sunday night’s preseason game with a first-quarter ankle injury.
He was ruled out for the game’s remainder, and Jets starters are dropping like flies. They already lost Dustin Keller to a first-quarter hamstring pull.
  • FA Linebacker #45
X-rays came back negative on Jets ILB David Harris’ ankle injury.
“Nothing to worry about,” he assured. Harris avoided a fracture and does not have a high ankle sprain. He’ll likely be held out of the preseason finale, but wasn’t going to play much anyhow. Harris had a down season as a tackler in 2011 (86), but recorded five sacks, four interceptions, and eight pass breakups.
  • FA Wide Receiver #14
Santonio Holmes (knee/quad, questionable) is active for the Jets in Week 2 against the Jaguars.
Holmes may not be 100%, but his matchup versus Jacksonville is too good to pass up for fantasy leaguers. He comes in as our No. 14 ranked receiver for Week 2. S Eric Smith and ILB David Harris will also suit up for the Jets.
  • FA Linebacker #45
Jets ILB David Harris and DT Kenrick Ellis both suffered sprained ankles in Sunday’s win over the Chargers.
Neither player is dealing with a high-ankle sprain, while Harris was able to play through the injury on Sunday. With the Jets on bye this week, both should be good to go for Week 9 against the Bills.
  • FA Linebacker #45
ILB David Harris expects the Jets to blitz more in 2013.
“There should be a different brand of football than you were used to seeing the last couple of years,” Harris said. The Jets sent five or more rushers just 34 percent of the time last season, down from 52.4 percent and 44.7 percent, respectively, in their stellar 2009 and 2010 campaigns. Coach Rex Ryan is reasserting his control over the defense after former DC Mike Pettine accepted the same job with Buffalo. Ultimately, the success of the Jets’ revamped secondary will determine how much they can get after the quarterback.

ESPN New York says ILB David Harris is a “prime candidate” to restructure his contract.
Harris is entering the third year of a four-year, $36 million contract he signed in August of 2011. He’s owed $10.9 million in 2013 base salary, an untenable number considering his on-field performance and the Jets’ cap situation. ProFootballFocus graded out Harris 48th among 53 qualified inside linebackers in 2012.
