Dawel Lugo has signed with the Mariachis of Guadalajara of the Mexican League.
Lugo was outrighted off the Tigers’ 40-man roster back in August. The 26-year-old holds a .236/.270/.358 batting line over over 400 plate appearances in the majors, all with Detroit. Odds are he’ll resurface with a major league organization down the line.

Tigers sent INF Dawel Lugo outright to their alternate training site.
Lugo cleared waivers and is now off the Tigers’ 40-man roster. The 25-year-old has struggled to find his footing at the plate during his brief major league career.

Tigers designated INF Dawel Lugo for assignment.
The move clears a spot for prospect Isaac Paredes on the active roster. Lugo, 25, posted a weak .652 OPS last season and was just 2-for-10 (.200) through nine games in a bench role so far this year.

  • FA 1st Baseman #28
C.J. Cron (knee) departed Monday night’s game against the White Sox due to a left knee injury.
Cron took a hard-hit ball off his left leg while playing first base in the top of the fourth inning. He walked off the field under his own power but was hobbling. Dawel Lugo hit for him in the bottom of the fourth. Word from the Tigers is that Cron is “undergoing further evaluation,” and there might not be an update until Tuesday.

Dawel Lugo is being held out of action in Tigers camp due to a tight back.
it’s being called a precautionary measure for now. Lugo projects to open the 2020 regular season as a utility infielder for Detroit after batting just .245/.271/.381 with six home runs in 288 plate appearances last year.

Dawel Lugo singled in two runs and walked Friday against Southeastern.
Lugo and Jeimer Candelario are both out of options and there’s probably room in the lineup for just one of them, since the Tigers added C.J. Cron and Jonathan Schoop over the winter. Candelario seems like the better bet from here, but Lugo will get to compete for the starting job at third this spring. He hit .245/.271/.381 in 288 plate appearances last season, and he also wasn’t very impressive defensively.

Dawel Lugo doubled twice Tuesday as the Tigers fell to the Twins.
Lugo doubled and scored in the first inning before adding an RBI two-bagger in his final plate appearance of the evening. The Tigers have been using Lugo as their everyday third baseman, but he hasn’t looked like a potential big league regular at any point.

Dawel Lugo went 3-for-4 and scored a run as the Tigers fell to the White Sox on Saturday evening in Motown.
All three of his hits in the game were singles, including one to lead off the ninth inning -- where he eventually came around to score on an RBI knock by Ronny Rodriguez. The 24-year-old -- who came to the Tigers in the deal that sent J.D. Martinez to the Diamondbacks -- is hitting .240/.268/.376 with six homers and 25 RBI in 250 at-bats at the big league level this season.
  • FA 3rd Baseman #3
Jeimer Candelario (triceps) is out of the Tigers’ starting lineup again on Wednesday.
Candelario was scratched from the lineup on Tuesday night after getting hit by a pitch in his triceps on Monday. He’s apparently still store. Dawel Lugo is playing third base and Brandon Dixon is handling first base Wednesday versus the Indians. Miguel Cabrera is at DH.

Dawel Lugo went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI and a run scored to propel the Tigers to a victory over the Athletics in extra innings on Friday.
Lugo sliced a leadoff single to right field and came around to score the eventual go-ahead run in the 11th inning. He also was primarily responsible for sending the contest to extra innings thanks to a game-tying two-run single in the eighth inning. The 24-year-old infielder is hitting .246/.271/.374 with 20 runs scored, four homers and 21 RBI in 214 plate appearances at the major-league level this season.
