Chargers selected Michigan State RB Edwin Baker with the No. 250 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.
Once considered one of the better power backs in the draft, Baker likely fell off many draft boards due to his nine collegiate fumbles and poor 3.9 senior year yards-per-carry mark. Standing at 5'8/204, Baker will look to carve out a role as a reserve tailback, but he has almost no pass-catching experience and will need to overcome a lack of speed and poor elusiveness.

Chargers signed seventh-round RB Edwin Baker to a four-year contract.
A former top high school recruit, Baker looked posed for stardom as a sophomore before his production sank as a junior playing behind Le’Veon Bell. Baker goes 5-foot-8, 202 with surprising pop for a small man and 4.45-4.47 speed. He has a significant talent edge on incumbent third-stringer Curtis Brinkley.
  • LAC Running Back #34
Undrafted RB Michael Hayes has reportedly outplayed seventh-rounder Edwin Baker early in training camp.
Hayes rushed for 727 yards and 11 TDs and hauled in 44 passes for 483 yards and 4 TDs at Houston last year. He started his college career taking handoffs from Cam Newton at Blinn (TX) College. Impressing the coaching staff with long gainers and an ability to slip tackles on a daily basis, Hayes could beat out Baker and Curtis Brinkley for a roster spot.

Chargers promoted RB Edwin Baker from the practice squad.
A seventh-round pick in last April’s draft, Baker didn’t make it past final cuts. Even with Ryan Mathews (collarbone) done for the season, Baker will be no higher than third on the depth chart.

Chargers waived RB Edwin Baker, C Colin Baxter, CB Greg Brown, S Tony Burnett, WR Deon Butler, G/T Brandyn Dombrowski, QB Nathan Enderle, P Richard Kent, DL Jamarcus McFarland, and TE Dallas Walker.
Baker was the Chargers’ seventh-round pick in 2012. Dombrowski has started games for San Diego in the past -- and been manhandled by defensive linemen.

Free agent RB Edwin Baker visited the Broncos.
Baker was among the Chargers’ first round of cuts last week. He rushed 11 times for 57 yards this preseason. Baker was the No. 250 overall pick last year.

Broncos signed RB Edwin Baker to the practice squad.
Baker will get the first call if one of Montee Ball, Ronnie Hillman and Knowshon Moreno goes down with injury.

OC Norv Turner said he expects Edwin Baker to receive playing time in Sunday’s game against the Bears.
Willis McGahee (concussion) is almost certainly out. Baker was just signed two days ago, but he has some familiarity with Norv Turner’s scheme from their time together in San Diego. We wouldn’t expect more than a few snaps behind Chris Ogbonnaya and Fozzy Whittaker.

Edwin Baker rushed 18 times for 69 yards in Cleveland’s Week 17 loss to the Steelers.
Baker “added” two catches for -1 yards. Either way, it was one of the best efforts by a Browns back all season, and gives Baker 171 yards in three games as Cleveland’s starter. He finishes with a 4.0 YPC on 43 totes. Extremely quick to the hole, there’s no hesitation to Baker’s game. He looked better than Trent Richardson this season. Baker could compete for the Browns’ starting job in 2014, but will more likely be back as a reserve.

    Browns signed RB Edwin Baker.
Baker was on the Texans’ practice squad. The No. 250 overall pick of the 2012 draft, Baker has yet to notch an NFL carry. Despite the sorry state of Cleveland’s running back corps, that’s unlikely to change.
