How do you make the best of an unfortunate situation? That’s the question we, the Rotoworld Baseball crew, have been asking ourselves ever since the sports world shut down due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Who knows when/if the 2020 MLB season will start or what it will look like, but this has been an opportune time for many to take a look back. We’ve seen that in the form of various brackets at essentially every major outlet of note. Similarly, there’s been a number of simulations focused on what the 2020 season might have looked like if it had started on time. That’s well-covered ground at this point, so we decided to take some of these common themes and go in a different direction.
The idea is a simple-yet-ambitious one. Draft the best individual fantasy seasons from the beginning of the rotisserie baseball era (1980, for the purposes of this league) through today. Players can only be taken once, so you can’t have 2000 Pedro Martinez on one team and 1999 Pedro Martinez on another. There will be 20 teams total with 25-man rosters. We’re going to sim out a 162-game season on WhatIfSports, but not for the purposes of winning a division title or a World Series. Instead, we’re going to tabulate fantasy stats based off the numbers produced in those games.

The draft is slated to begin next Monday, April 27 and will continue throughout the week. Look for coverage right here on Rotoworld.com as well as the Rotoworld Baseball Podcast and @Rotoworld_BB on Twitter. The league will take several weeks to complete, so look for weekly progress reports and whatever other fun stuff we can conjure up. Hey, at least we have something to keep ourselves busy for a while. We hope you’ll get some entertainment out of it too.
