Justin Foscue homered and walked in his two plate appearances off the bench Thursday against the Twins.

Foscue has been limited to starts against lefties since the Rangers brought in Nicky Lopez and things don’t figure to get any better with Josh Smith back, but he’s batting .274/.333/.493 through 81 plate appearances. If he can stick even as a platoon guy against lefties, that seems like a better career outcome than he was looking at the previous year or two.

Matthew Liberatore was obliterated in a losing effort against the Royals on Thursday evening, giving up seven runs (five earned) on seven hits in just 1 2/3 innings.

Yikes. Liberatore did record two of his five outs via the strikeout and didn’t walk a batter. He allowed one run in the opening inning on a solo blast by Bobby Witt Jr. The Royals then piled on with six more while chasing him in the second. He got four whiffs on just 48 pitches in the game, posting a CSW of 27 percent. He now holds a disappointing 5.23 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and a 67/27 K/BB ratio over 72 1/3 innings of work in 15 starts on the season. He’ll try to get back on track when he takes on the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

The Royals announced that Bobby Witt Jr. was pulled from Thursday’s game due to right knee discomfort.

That was the thought when he left the field, so nothing new from the update as Witt heads for further evaluation. Expect Royals’ skipper Matt Quatraro to have more information when he talks to the media following the conclusion of Thursday’s game.

Sean Burke picked up his fourth victory of the season on Thursday, limiting the Yankees to just one run on five hits over 7 1/3 frames.

Burke punched out eight hitters in the contest while issuing one walk. He entered in the second inning after Bryan Hudson got the first five outs as an opener for the White Sox. Burke served up a solo homer to Ryan McMahon in the third inning, but that would be the only run that they could muster against him the rest of the way. The 26-year-old got 20 swings and misses on 88 offerings in the game, posting an elite CSW of 39 percent. Now 4-4 on the season, he’ll look to replicate this fine performance as he brings a 3.89 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a 81/29 K/BB ratio (81 innings) into Tuesday’s divisional showdown against the Guardians.
