Shane Drohan allowed five hits and zero runs with three walks and five strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Reds on Wednesday.

Facing exclusively right-handed batters, the left-handed Drohan did well to keep the Reds off the board here despite needing 98 pitches to get 13 outs. He labored through many long at-bats and traffic-riddled innings to get there though and didn’t have great command of either his curveball or slider and thus, struggled to put hitters away. This was just the second time in five starts since being fully unleashed as a starter where he failed to complete at least five innings. He’s scheduled to face the Reds again next time out followed by the Diamondbacks in a two-start week.

The Brewers will start Robert Gasser, Brandon Sproat and Shane Drohan in their first three games against the Reds next week.

It was thought the Brewers might go back to a five-man rotation next week, but it’s not happening. There’s definitely no sense of urgency. The three possibilities to be dropped have all made four starts with ERAs in the mid-3.00s this month (3.48 for Sproat, 3.65 for Drohan and 3.74 for Gasser).

Shane Drohan allowed one run through five innings in a no-decision versus the Guardians on Thursday.

Drohan’s fastball velocity had been holding up quite well as a starter, but his first fastball was down about one mph today and his slider was down by about two mph. Fortunately, he still mostly produced soft contact, with David Fry’s 380-foot homer being the obvious exception. Drohan departed with a one-run lead, but that failed to last long. He’s 1-1 with a 4.43 ERA and a 19/6 K/BB over 20 1/3 innings in four starts since being added to the rotation at the beginning of the month. He’ll probably keep the spot following Brandon Woodruff’s return and face the Reds next week.

Shane Drohan pitched five-plus innings and allowed four runs Saturday against the Phillies.

Drohan struck out seven and walked none, but he gave up eight hits. The last of those was a Brandon Marsh single to open the sixth in a 3-3 game. Drohan was lifted afterwards, and the Phillies went on to score five runs in the inning. It was still a solid showing for Drohan. He allowed only four hard-hit balls. He’s given up nine runs in 15 1/3 innings over three starts since moving into the Milwaukee rotation, and he’ll probably stick around face the Braves next week.

Shane Drohan allowed three runs in 6 1/3 innings and got the win in the Brewers’ 12-4 victory over the Rockies on Sunday.

Drohan gave up five hits, walked one and struck out four. He improved to 3-1 with the win. Drohan was removed after 83 pitches as he was making just his third start of the year after pitching in the bullpen. He has a 3.11 ERA. It’s unclear if Drohan will remain in the rotation, but he’s lined up to face the Phillies at home next weekend.

Shane Drohan allowed two runs over four innings Monday in his start versus the Giants.

The runs came on a Matt Chapman homer that was nearly taken away by Jackson Chourio in center. It was a homer in just eight of the 30 ballparks. Since he was pulled at 68 pitches after spending the last five weeks in the pen, he didn’t get a win in the rout. That instead went to Chad Patrick after a scoreless fifth. Drohan will probably make another start Saturday in Colorado, but he might return to the pen after that.

Brewers recalled RHP Easton McGee from Triple-A Nashville.

With Brandon Woodruff on the injured list, McGee will hang around and soak up some low-leverage innings from the club if needed. It seems likely that Shane Drohan will either start or have a bulk role for the Brewers during what would have been Woodruff’s next turn through the rotation.

Shane Drohan recorded his first major league victory after allowing one run in four innings of relief work Thursday against the D-backs.

Drohan came in to start the third after Brandon Woodruff left in the second and gave the Brewers both length and quality in a game in which they really only needed the former; they scored eight runs in the first four innings and wound up winning 13-1. Drohan entered the day with a 5/5 K/BB in 7 2/3 innings as a major leaguer, but he struck out four and walked none in this one. He’s one of the handful of options to step into the rotation if Woodruff lands on the IL.

Brewers recalled LHP Shane Drohan from Triple-A Nashville.

Drohan resurfaces with a 3.29 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 13 2/3 innings with the Sounds. His initial taste of MLB earlier in April left him with a career 10.13 ERA and he’ll attempt to shave that down in his next outing.

Brewers optioned LHP Shane Drohan to Triple-A Nashville.

He gave up three runs in 2 2/3 innings in his start, but the Brewers have a few days off coming up and will add another reliever to the bullpen in the meantime. Drohan, 27, is a good bet to make more starts with the Brewers this year.

Shane Drohan lasted only 2 2/3 innings and gave up three runs to the Red Sox in his major league debut Wednesday.

Drohan opened up with two scoreless innings, but his wildness cost him in the third after the Red Sox got a bunt single and David Hamilton couldn’t handle Wilyer Abreu’s one-hopper to second. He walked two that inning, including one with the bases loaded, and was pulled after 63 pitches, only 28 of which were strikes. Drohan will most likely return to Triple-A now. The Brewers have Thursday and Monday off, so they’re not going to need a fifth starter for a while.

Braves signed OF Andrew McCutchen to a minor league deal.

McCutchen was 14-for-73 (.192) with one homer and five RBI in 37 games with the Rangers earlier this season before being released on May 28th. The Braves just released Rowdy Tellez because they didn’t want a strict DH on their bench, but perhaps McCutchen could work his way up to fill that role because he’s a better runner. He will start out in Triple-A, however.

Karinchak has actually pitched well in his first MLB innings since 2023. The 30-year-old has allowed two runs on four hits in 8 2/3 innings. He no longer has elite strikeout upside with just a 7/4 K/BB ratio, but we’d imagine this is just about getting a fresh arm up in the bullpen since Karinchak has thrown 42 pitches in the last three days and the Braves had to use four relievers on Thursday.

Cade Cavalli is expected to miss his next start after being suspended seven games for his part in the bench-clearing skirmish on Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Cavalli was expected to make two starts next week, with the first coming on Monday against the Astros. That no longer appears to be the case. Of course, Cavalli could appeal the suspension and have it reduced, but we’d imagine it will cover Monday’s game since the league cited Cavalli for “initiating” the incident when he shouted at Contreras and called him “Boy” after striking him out. Even without a two-start week, Cavalli looked so good in that Red Sox start that he should be added in more leagues as a potential second-half breakout candidate.

Randy Vásquez fainted and was taken for tests after exiting his start Thursday against the Dodgers.

Vásquez was on his way to undergo X-rays on his ankle when he fainted. Those were deemed necessary because he took a Mookie Betts comebacker off his leg in the first inning, though he remained in until being pulled after three innings due to ineffectiveness. He was stable and conscious after fainting.

Roki Sasaki was tagged for six runs in three innings by the Padres on Thursday.

The Dodger offense let him off the hook, but Sasaki put the team in quite a hole tonight. He gave up homers to Manny Machado, Jackson Merrill and Jake Cronenworth and threw 88 pitches to get his nine outs. After a nice May, Sasaki has given up 19 runs over 17 innings in his last four starts, taking his ERA from 4.03 to 5.40. It’s probably lucky for him that River Ryan is back on the shelf in Triple-A with a hamstring issue. He’s due to make his final start before the break Wednesday at home against the Rockies.

The Padres lack quality alternatives, but removing Vásquez from the rotation seems like the only appropriate move at this point. He’s given up 18 runs — 14 earned — in 9 2/3 innings over his last three outings, striking out just two batters in the process. The Padres won eight of his first nine starts this year, but they’ve now lost seven of his last eight turns. If he stays in the rotation, he’ll face the D-backs on Tuesday.
