Miguel Vargas went 3-for-6 with a home run, double, two runs scored, and five RBI in a ridiculous 22-1 rout of the Royals on Friday.

This was an all-time blowout. Vargas got the White Sox going with a three-run home run that started their 10-run third inning. He chipped in another run-scoring double in that same frame and one last RBI in the seventh when they already had 20 runs home. In all, they hit five home runs as a team and did all of their damage against real pitchers. Infielder Tyler Tolbert actually turned in a scoreless eighth inning when all the dust had settled. Baseball can be a funny sport sometimes. As for Vargas, that home run was his 18th on the season as he looks to put the finishing touches on his All-Star resume.
Mariners call up elite pitching prospect Anderson

Jacob Webb allowed three runs to blow the save and take the loss against the Mariners on Saturday.

Webb got the call to close out Saturday’s contest against the Mariners with a two-run lead in the ninth. He retired the first two batters, then gave up a run on a double and a single, leaving a runner on for Randy Arozarena, who took Webb deep for a walk-off, two-run homer. It was his fifth charged blown save, but his first since June 20. Webb had been pitching well as the team’s closer and could still get the next opportunity as the Cubs work Daniel Palencia back in his return from the injured list.

Kade Anderson allowed three runs with five strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Saturday.

Anderson tossed a clean first inning, collecting his first career strikeout on Alex Bregman to end the inning. He worked around a walk in the second inning, then tossed a clean third with the help of a spectacular home run robbery by Randy Arozarena. Anderson gave up his first hit to lead off the fourth, then surrendered his first run on a walk, a hit, and a sacrifice fly in the fifth. He returned for the sixth, facing the order for a third time, and gave up back-to-back solo homers to Alex Bregman and Michael Busch, knocking him from the game with two outs at 81 pitches. Still, it was an impressive debut overall for the talented 22-year-old right-hander. He’ll get a chance to build on his solid first start with a matchup against the Blue Jays in Toronto next weekend.

Craig Kimbrel tossed a scoreless ninth inning and got the save against the Tigers on Saturday.

Kimbrel’s save was his first of the year and first with the Royals. Kansas City is the ninth franchise that Kimbrel has recorded a save with. He struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning to slam the door on the Tigers Saturday. Steven Cruz pitched in two of the last three games, which likely made him unavailable. Regardless of Cruz’ availability, Kimbrel has 441 saves in his career. He’s certainly in the mix for saves along with Cruz, who has five saves in his career, all coming this year with the Royals.
