Jose Altuve (leg) was held out of the Astros’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Tigers at Comerica Park.

Altuve was pulled from Saturday’s game after Zach McKinstry slid into him at second base during the seventh inning. Astros’ skipper Joe Espada told reporters after the game that Altuve was fine, but it sounds like he wants to give the 36-year-old infielder an extra day off just to be on the safe side. Raynel Delgado will start in his place at second base and bat ninth against Jack Flaherty and the Tigers on Sunday.

Jake Meyers reached on an error with two outs in the seventh inning, then Delgado crushed the very next pitch from Tyler Holton for a two-run blast that pulled the Astros to within a run at 3-2. Delgado finished the afternoon 1-for-4 and is now hitting .280/.308/.400 with a homer and four RBI in his first 27 plate appearances with the Astros.

Altuve was shaken up after getting slid into at second base in the seventh. He stayed in initially, but he was replaced in the eighth inning. it sounds like he’ll be back out there on Sunday.

Altuve was replaced at second base following an eighth-inning ground out, but the potential injury seemed to occur a couple innings earlier when Zach McKinstry slid head-first into his left leg on a play at second base. There should be an update on his status following the contest.

Jose Altuve went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles as the Astros were shut out by Keider Montero and the Tigers on Friday evening in Motown.

Altuve notched two of his squad’s five total hits in the ballgame, with both of them coming off of Montero. With his two-hit attack, the 36-year-old infielder is now slashing .240/.313/.395 with eight homers, 21 RBI and one stolen base on the season.

Jeremy Peña is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Astros.

Peña was removed from Monday’s game with a right hamstring cramp, and the ailment will keep him out of the starting lineup for at least one more game. Consider Peña day-to-day for now, with a chance to return to the lineup for Wednesday’s tilt — assuming it is just a cramp, anyway. Raynel Delgado will handle shortstop duties in Peña’s absence.

Raynel Delgado went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in Houston’s 4-2 win over the Tigers on Tuesday.

Delgado got the start at third base on Tuesday. After knocking a base hit and scoring Houston’s first run on a wild pitch in the fifth inning, he came through in a big spot in the eighth, driving in two runs on a single to give the Astros the lead. The 26-year-old infielder isn’t likely to get much playing time outside of the occasional start, but has plenty of stolen base upside after swiping 24 bags in the minors if he finds himself in the lineup more a few times a week.

Jose Altuve is not in the Astros’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Royals.

Astros’ skipper Joe Espada confirmed there’s nothing physically wrong with Altuve, he just needed a breather. Brice Matthews will start in his place at second base and will bat seventh against Stephen Kolek and the Royals on Sunday afternoon in Kansas City.

Jose Altuve went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in the eighth as the Astros edged the Royals 9-8 on Saturday.

Altuve joined Christian Walker, Brice Matthews and Jake Meyers in homering for Houston. Altuve is now 5-for-26 with two homers in eight games since coming off the injured list. His .238 average through 50 games is a full 65 points lower than his career mark of .303.

Astros selected the contract of INF Raynel Delgado from Triple-A Sugar Land.

Delgado hit .250/.320/.362 at Triple-A Durham before being dealt to the Astros a few days ago. He’ll be a bench infielder in the bigs. If he ever does get a real role, the 24 stolen bases he had point to the fact that he could be an interesting one-category fantasy contributor.
