Julio Rodríguez went 2-for-4 with a run scored, one RBI, and a stolen base against the Guardians on Sunday.

Rodríguez drew a walk and scored a run in the third inning, then singled to bring a run home and stole a base in the sixth. He would reach for a third time with a base hit in the eighth. The 25-year-old outfielder had cooled significantly in June, hitting .213 with two homers in the month going into Sunday’s contest. He’s slashing .253/.315/.423 with 14 homers, 44 runs scored, 40 RBI, and 12 steals across 368 plate appearances.

Rangers signed INF Santiago Espinal to a minor league contract.

Espinal elected free agency from the Dodgers in mid-June after refusing an outright assignment to Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 31-year-old hit .268 (15-for-56) with one home run and seven RBI in 31 games during his time with the Dodgers. He’ll add quality infield depth for the Rangers and should get an opportunity with the big league club in relatively short order.

Mookie Betts (wrist) returned to the Dodgers’ starting lineup for Thursday’s series opener against the Padres.

Betts was scratched from Wednesday’s lineup against the Athletics due to soreness in his right wrist, but it appears to have been only a minor issue. Willson Contreras was handed a seven-game suspension and fined an undisclosed amount after throwing his helmet at Nationals’ right-hander Cade Cavalli during a bench-clearing dustup at Fenway Park on Tuesday.

Cavalli was also suspended for seven games, while Miles Mikolas got a five-game ban and Nate Eaton was levied a three-game suspension and all were handed undisclosed fines for their roles in the fracas. All of the suspensions will start on Friday unless they are appealed. Even if Contreras does have his suspension reduced by a game or two, he’s still going to miss at least a handful of games, much to the detriment of fantasy managers.

Royals’ left-hander Cole Ragans underwent surgery to repair the UCL in his left elbow and is expected to be sidelined for 10-12 months while recovering.

Based on that timeline, it sounds like he received the internal brace procedure instead of the full Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery for the third time. Either way, he’s going to be shelved until around the All-Star break in 2027.
