M’s activate Julio Rodríguez from concussion IL

Luzardo did everything he could to give the Phillies a chance in this one, but when your offense is going against Cam Schlittler, runs will be hard to come by. Luzardo nearly matched Schlittler inning-for-inning on Friday night, but it was a solo homer by Paul Goldschmidt that proved to be the difference-maker in an otherwise strong performance by Luzardo. It’s a tough way to pick up his fifth loss of the season, but the Phillies and fantasy managers won’t be disappointed with the start, as Luzardo has now allowed one earned run or fewer in seven straight outings. He’ll look to pick up his 10th win of the season next week when he takes the mound on Wednesday against the Marlins.

Unfortunately for Cameron, Beck Way opened and gave up two of the game’s three runs with Tarik Skubal lurking on the other side. Cameron struck out eight and looked as good as we’ve seen him all season, with a 40 percent whiff rate and his average velocity up a few ticks across the board. There’s not really a great reason to get excited about firing up Cameron against the Twins next week given how his season has gone, but maybe he’s turning a corner at the right time.

It was another dominant outing for Schlittler, who gave Phillies hitters fits all night on the way to his second double-digit strikeout performance of the season. Schlittler’s 12 strikeouts were just one off from the 13 he tallied in June against the Reds. He made it through the first three innings without allowing a hit and never allowed more than one batter to reach base in any of his 7 1/3 innings of work. Now sitting on 10 wins for the season, Schlittler will look to pick up his 11th win of the season on Wednesday on the road against the White Sox.

Jones was solid in this one, pitching five innings of scoreless ball before giving up a solo homer to Pete Crow-Armstrong with one out in the sixth inning for his lone earned run of the night. Jones was in command of the strike zone all night, allowing just two hits while walking only one batter. He threw 67.1 percent of his pitches for strikes and has allowed one earned run or fewer in each of his last four starts. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday at home against the Diamondbacks.

The Royals mounted little opposition here, mustering a double and walk to leadoff the third inning before bunting the runners into a pair of Skubal strikeouts. They eventually got on the board via a RBI double from Nick Loftin, but Skubal allowed just five hard-hit balls on 91 pitches and had an absurd 45 percent whiff rate. We’ve got no real reason to assume he’ll be moved before his next start, which tentatively is set to be against the Orioles on Wednesday. Fantasy managers, obviously, will keep firing up Skubal regardless of what happens.

Boyd was solid in this one, retiring the first six batters he faced to begin his outing. He would escape a jam in the third inning when Ian Happ gunned down Henry Davis at home when Davis attempted to score on a sacrifice fly, and gave up his lone run in the game in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Davis to bring home Marcel Ozuna. Boyd has allowed one earned run or fewer in three of his last four starts and is scheduled to make one more start this month. He’ll next toe the rubber on Wednesday at the Cardinals.

Soto has been dealing with the issue since the beginning of the second half. He’s again likely day-to-day. If he plays again this weekend, it’d probably be as a DH, meaning there wouldn’t be a spot for Jorge Polanco in the lineup.

Perhaps this has something to do with his troublesome calf? It was a 1-1 game, so it certainly wasn’t score related. Soto, who started at DH, walked twice before being replaced by Jorge Polanco.

Arrighetti shut it down after a couple of throws from the mound while warming up for the second. He had a rough start to this game. Two walks and a single by the first three batters he faced brought home one run, a sacrifice fly a second and then consecutive hit batsmen with two outs a third. It took 33 pitches in all.

Cavanaugh was set to start behind the dish and bat ninth for the Giants on Friday evening, but he was feeling a bit under the weather as game time approached so the club made a last minute switch. Daniel Susac will catch in his place against Grayson Rodriguez and the Angels. Cavanaugh is considered day-to-day.
