Kyle Leahy allowed just a run over five innings to pick up a win over the Marlins on Sunday.

Leahy allowed a ground-rule double to Graham Pauley in his fifth and final frame, and that was it. The 29-year-old has been outstanding as of late, and he’s given up just one run over his last two outings while lowering his season ERA to 4.09. He struck out five in that solid effort, and he issued just one free pass. Leahy will look to keep the good run going in a scheduled start Saturday against the Cubs.

Leahy was excellent against the Cubs on Saturday, holding them scoreless over five innings. He scattered three hits and two walks, throwing 45-of-77 pitches for strikes and collecting six strikeouts. He’s now allowed just one run total over his last three starts. The 29-year-old right-hander will look to keep it going when he takes a 3.86 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and a 73/33 K/BB ratio across 86 1/3 innings into a start against the Brewers in St. Louis on Thursday.

Leahy gave up three hits, walked two and struck out three. He was able to shut down the Diamondbacks offense on Tuesday, but it’s hard to believe in his skills with only three strikeouts and an 18 percent strikeout percentage this year. Leahy has a 4.24 ERA. He’s lined up to face the Marlins at home this weekend.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #62
Leahy struck out seven and walked one, taking advantage of a strong matchup as the Padres entered the day with the worst run-scoring lineup in MLB. He has now made 14 starts after primarily pitching out of the bullpen in his big-league career before 2026. His next outing is scheduled to come at home against the Diamondbacks, where he’ll be a volume-based streamer in deeper formats.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #62
Leahy gave up a solo homer to Byron Buxton with one out in the first inning, and would allow three more runs to score over his final two innings of work. Leahy attempted to make it through the Twins’ order a third time, but after alowing the first three runners he faced to reach base he was pulled in favor of George Soriano. It was business as usual for Leahy, who was again limited to five innings but did a good job of controlling the strike zone. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday at home against the Padres.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #62
The three runs Leahy allowed in this one all came in the first inning, with a two-RBI double by Sal Stewart kicking things off with one out. Eugenio Suárez would later single to bring home Stewart to give the Reds the early 3-0 advantage, but the Cardinals wasted little time battling to re-take the lead before turning the game into a full-blown blowout by the sixth inning. Leahy continues to see short outings and has made it out of the sixth inning just once in his 12 starts. His next start is scheduled for Thursday at the Mets.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #62
Leahy pitched four scoreless innings before giving up a leadoff double and a one-out single to tie the game at 1-1 in the fifth. That was all the Cardinals needed to see from him, as he was facing the top of the order for a third time and has not done well the third time around thus far. Leahy has averaged exactly five innings per start while going 5-3 with a 4.25 ERA to date. He’s lined up to face the Reds on Friday.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #62
Leahy struck out a career-best eight, but the Reds got to him with a three-run homer from Elly De La Cruz and a two-run homer from Nathaniel Lowe, both in the fifth inning. Leahy’s ERA stands at 4.44, and he’s gotten a total of five outs after the fifth inning in his 10 starts this year. Maybe he’ll improve, but it’s also quite possible he’d be more valuable to the Cardinals as a reliever. He’s due to face the Cubs next.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #62
Leahy stranded six runners through four innings, including a bases-loaded situation in the second, before the Royals would break through with one run on two hits in the fifth. He returned for a scoreless sixth, ending his day at 90 pitches with two strikeouts and in line for the win. It’s his third straight start allowing one run or less. The 28-year-old right-hander will take a 3.94 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, and a 34/20 K/BB ratio across 45 2/3 innings into a start against the Reds in Cincinnati on Friday.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #62
Leahy allowed two hits, walked four and struck out five in the 95-pitch outing. The two longest flies against him would have been homers in 12 and six of 30 ballparks, respectively, but they were both outs today in Petco. Leahy has allowed just one run in his two starts this month, lowering his ERA from 5.52 to 4.31. However, he needs to become more efficient; he’s recorded a total of two outs in the sixth inning in his eight starts. He’ll face the Royals next weekend.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #62
Leahy was able to procure five strikeouts despite generating only seven swings and misses. He allowed six hits and two walks, but the right-hander was able to keep the Brew Crew from scoring for the first five frames before surrendering a run in the sixth. The 28-year-old has not been effective for most of the year, and it’d be a mistake to believe he repeats this effort against the Padres on Saturday.

Jake Bloss (elbow) allowed one run on three hits in 4 1/3 innings for Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.

He struck out one and walked one while throwing 62 percent of his pitches for strikes. The bigger news was that Bloss saw 94.9 mph on his sinker and 96.3 mph on his four-seam fastball, which were both up by about three mph. He struggled to command the sinker, but that kind of velocity bump, which he held throughout the game, would be big news for the 25-year-old right-hander. He could be an option in the Blue Jays’ rotation after the break.

Rockies OF prospect Zac Veen went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI for Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday.

Veen is now hitting .322/.400/.588 with 14 home runs, 55 RBI, and 14 steals in 75 games at Triple-A. He’s being a bit more aggressive than he has been in recent seasons, so even though his swinging strike rate remains a similar 11.5 percent, he’s making more contact and more contact in the zone than before. He deserves another shot at MLB at-bats, but with Jake McCarthy, Brenton Doyle, Mickey Moniak, and Cole Carrigg also in the outfield mix in Colorado, the team likely needs to make a move at the trade deadline.

Matt Wallner went 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run for Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday.

Wallner is now hitting .282/.376/.607 with 15 home runs, 42 RBI, and a 49/17 K/BB ratio in 42 games since being demoted to Triple-A. Yes, the strikeouts remain a bit of an issue and probably always will, but the 28-year-old has consistent power that teams covet. It might make sense for the Twins to use this hot stretch to give him MLB at-bats and see if they can trade him at the deadline to a team that wants a left-handed power bat off the bench.

Dodgers OF prospect Mike Sirota went 1-for-6 with a solo home run for Double-A Tulsa on Sunday.

That homer extended Sirota’s on-base streak to 68 games. The 23-year-old is hitting .324/.484/.547 with seven home runs, 25 RBI, and three steals in 38 games at Double-A after being promoted following 35 games at High-A. He has emerged as a top-15 prospect in all of baseball and looks like a major steal for the Dodgers, who drafted him in 2021 only to see him choose to go to college, and then have the Dodgers trade Gavin Lux to the Reds for him in January 2025.

Mariners promoted OF prospect Lazaro Montes to Triple-A Tacoma.

Montes and 2B/OF prospect Michael Arroyo are being promoted to Triple-A Tacoma, according to MLB.com’s Daniel Kramer. Montes is the Mariners’ third-ranked prospect and MLB Pipeline’s 26th overall prospect, while Arroyo is the team’s fourth-ranked prospect and MLB Pipeline’s 43rd overall prospect. Montes hit .236/.365/.554 with 25 home runs and five steals in 78 games at Double-A. That came with a 30.5 percent strikeout rate, 18 percent swinging strike rate, and 62.5 percent contact rate, so those numbers will need to improve in Triple-A before he has a legitimate shot to crack the MLB roster.

Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said that Spencer Horwitz (hamstring) and Oneil Cruz (hand fracture) are still expected back in July.

Cherington mentioned that both players “are progressing well in Florida, but both will be sidelined until after the All-Star Break.” The team hopes that they will both be back in the lineup “not too long after the break.” Cruz has been out since June 10th with non-displaced fractures in his hand. He was originally expected to miss “at least one month,” which will be in the middle of this week. He could likely begin a rehab assignment in the next couple of weeks and, assuming he can swing without pain, be back in the Pirates lineup soon after. With both Horwitz and Cruz back, the Pirates may have to be creative to find at-bats for surging Esmerlyn Valdez and Tyler Callihan.

AJ Smith-Shawver threw four scoreless innings for Single-A Augusta on Sunday.

Smith-Shawver allowed two hits and didn’t walk a batter while striking out five. There is no Statcast data at the park, but reports are that he sat 96 mph on his four-seam fastball and touched 100 mph. He threw 34 of his 47 pitches for strikes in what was an incredibly efficient outing. The Braves will move him up to a higher level and presumably try to get him around 60 pitches next time out. Now would be the time to stash him in fantasy leagues since he could return to Atlanta in two weeks. Remember that he had a 3.86 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and 22 percent strikeout rate in 44 innings for Atlanta last year, so we’d recommend stashing just in deeper formats for right now.

Blake Snell (elbow) is scheduled to throw another bullpen.

We know Snell threw a bullpen on June 26th, and it appears that he threw another one this weekend, but there aren’t many more details about how many, or what type of, pitches he threw. We would still assume that he will begin facing live hitters if this next bullpen is successful and then begin a rehab assignment. All of that seems to indicate that we could be looking at an early August return for Snell, if all goes well.

Roman Anthony (hand/wrist) will visit with a hand specialist this week.

The Red Sox are referring to the visit as more about “peace of mind,” but it’s obviously concerning that Anthony has made no substantial progress since spraining his wrist and tearing a ligament in his ring finger over two months ago. The 22-year-old will see Dr. Gary Lourie, who is a hand specialist and Braves’ head team physician.

Jarren Duran went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk as the Red Sox topped the Angels 7-5 on Sunday night.

The homer was his 13th, so power production hasn’t really been his issue. However, Duran came into this one hitless in his previous four games. It was his first multihit game since June 16 and his first time reaching base safely three times in a game since May 30. His OBP is sitting at .259, compared to .346, .342 and .332 the previous three years.
